Aurora II (Bacchus)

(2010) Aluminium, Mirror, motor, laser, wineglasses

View Movie

This is a Lumino-kinetic work that uses a combination of optical interference, refraction and reflection of surfaces to transform a space into a changing light-environment. There are 24 wineglasses arranged randomly in space around a mechanism that carefully shines a laser pattern through the glass structure. As the light hits the glasses at different angles the laser light-form changes and the projected organic patterns mutate into new light-forms with every rotation.

This piece takes an everyday object and manages to reveal something quite uniquely mystical and about it. The ordinary wineglass becomes the source for a cosmic energy that reveals an extra dimension on the walls and ceiling of the space.
