Celestial Globe

(2007) steel, Nitinol wire, electrics, petri dishes, acrylic, optics, light, table

The drawings were made using a series of finely balanced pendulums that follow the curvature of the sphere, and thus able to make intricate harmonic curves on its surface. By interacting with these self-built contraptions, the artist is able to build up a constellation of patterns on the globe, as well as allowing the coincidental to happen. "Celestial Globe" is an object that alludes to the terrestrial and celestial globes of the past, and embodies times of discovery of the past. Its endless surface shows the traces of the artists interaction, that shows intricate forms of order amidst the random chaos of chance.
