Wall Harmonograph

“Wall Harmonograph” 2001
Steel, bronze, wires, felt tip pen
1.0 x 1.0 x 1.0 m

This Drawing mechanism is a reinvention of the Victorian harmonograph where the mechanism applies images straight onto the wall. The two independently swinging pendulums draw harmonic curves or Lissajous curves with felt tip pen, and over time, accumulate images to form a forever-changing interactive mural. The earth’s gravitational pull is harnessed to produce completely unique forms that often resemble images not dissimilar from ones found in astronomy.
